Week 8

During Week 8 Andrew:
-Stays up so much at night.  He is basically up from 6-11pm and gets super cranky but doesn't want to nap during those hours.
-Has scheduled himself to wake up every night at 2 and 5 to eat.  Without fail he is up at 2 and 5 every night except 1.
-slept from 9-4 on Tuesday night.  Just the 1 night.  We tried giving him an earlier bed time and it seemed to work to break his habit, for one night.  Then, it was right back to 2 and 5.  I was one EXTREMELY exhausted momma.  For.  Sure.  But, I just told myself that as much as I wanted the habit to break that at that point, he needed me and he "needed" to be up.

Loves napping in your arms.  So sweet.

I'll just nap here.

Big Sister loves him.

Week 7

During Week 7 Andrew:
-Is finally feeling better and seems to be his happy self. So glad to have this sickness behind us.
-Weighs 10lbs 3oz
-Went to lunch and to see Dad on Wednesday
-Slept in his crib in his own room for the first time.
-Sleeps from about 9/10 at night to 2/3 in the morning, and then goes down again until around 5.  Not the best sleeping pattern, yet.
-Is starting to show little smiles.

There is a little smile.

So handsome.
First night in his crib, all wrapped up and snug as a bug.

Week 6

During Week 6 Andrew:
-was at the doctor too much.  That is the story of the week.  =)
-is diagnosed with a dairy allergy on Monday.  Turns out his colic is actually a symptom of his allergy.  The doctor did 3 stool samples and they were positive for blood.  He was switched to a hypoallergenic formula and I have  to stop eating dairy so he can still have milk.  Victoria had this same allergy, but it was not as severe and we did not discover it until she was 6 months old.

-Ends up back at the ER on Tuesday night.  He stopped eating and was sleeping more than usual so I took him back to the pediatrician Tuesday afternoon.  He had lost about 4 oz of weight in 24 hours and the hour we were at the office would not eat.  The doctor did not like the way he looked and described him as listless.  She called the hospital and told them he was on the way back.  They ran a set of bloodwork, which all came back ok.  He also ate while he was there, so he was sent home to continue monitoring. That night he slept from 10:30-5:30, probably from pure exhaustion.

-Thursday he was back at the pediatrician's office to continue watching him.  He looked better and weighed 9lbs 12 oz.  He had another fever Thursday night and slept from 11-5.

-Friday he seems to finally be feeling lots better.

This whole ordeal seems to have ended up being a viral infection that was just lingering on for a couple of weeks.  It was exhausting for him and for us and we saw the doctors more than we ever wanted to.

He did end up having to get a few more tests done to check for infection and to send to the infectious disease doctors at Arnold Palmer.  Everything came back ok and the fevers eventually stopped.

Week 5

Week 5 was quite the week.
In week 5 Andrew:
-seemed to have colic that gets worse and worse, lasting up to 3 hours a night.
-still got up twice a night, usually 2 and 5 to eat.
-went to the Dr. on Monday to discuss colic, and weighed 9lbs 2oz.  Dr. also decided to test his stool for blood incase he was having digestion issues, but didn't think this was the issue.
-celebrated his 1 month birthday.
-ended up in the hospital- that story will follow.
-celebrated Grandpa's birthday at home on Saturday.

Andrew's trip to the hospital this week was exhausting.  Thankfully (as I am writing this almost a month later) he is fine and has recovered from whatever he had.
On Wednesday night Andrew was being particularly cranky and when I picked him up, he felt warm. His temp was 100.2.  So, I undressed him and checked it again in 20 minutes.  It had gone up to 100.5.  In newborns, you are told to call the Dr. if their temp goes above 100.4.  I called and I was told to go directly to the Children's Emergency Room.  Not the urgent care, directly to the hospital.
Because of his age he was taken directly back and I was told by a nurse that things were going to get crazy very quickly and to try to stay calm.  She was right, they started doing every test they needed to do.  The reality was that he could have a cold, or a stomach virus just as easily as he could have bacterial meningitis.  They had to act like it was a serious infection because infants do not show the same symptoms as older children and adults.  He was tested for flu, RSV, UTI, blood infections, meningitis, and who knows what else.  He was poked with so many needles, got a spinal tap, and had a catheter placed.  It was horrible to watch.
After all the testing was done he was admitted to stay in the hospital.  Because of his history (me having a fever at birth, and him being treated for infection at birth) he was going to be treated for general infection while they waited for his cultures to grow.
He was admitted around 2am on Thursday morning.  I stayed in the hospital with him for the two nights and Philip went back and forth to home to take care of the dog and Victoria.  Grandma and Grandpa came and took Victoria to Lakeland on Thursday afternoon and brought her back Saturday.

We stayed in the hospital until Friday evening.  He received multiple doses of antibiotics and was closely monitored.  All of his labs came back clear, so he was released with the assumption that he was suffering from a virus that would have to run its course.

The staff and care at Arnold Palmer Hospital was wonderful.  While the hospital itself needs a facelift, I know he received world class care.

I have pictures from the hospital, not because I intended to share them, but because I am a person who likes to document.  I like to remember the good, the bad, the stressful.  I like to remember life.

In the ER.  Really not looking his best.

In his room, resting.

The best Dad a little guy could ask for.

The experience was exhausting.

Week 4

He's growing so fast!!  During week 4, Andrew:
-started to grow out of his newborn sized clothes, especially pajamas.
-seems to have colic.  He had episodes nightly where he would cry uncontrollably for a couple of hours around the same time (6-8pm).  We found that using the baby K'tan and his white noise giraffe did help him calm down some.
-watched the Seminoles play their bowl game.
-celebrated new years.  Happy 2016!
-ate lots....he's a chow hound as we like to say.
-started to show more smiles and interaction with us.

Happy New Year! (at 7pm)

Trying anything to help with the colic.

Week 3

Week 3 was an exciting week!
During week 3 Andrew:
-had his umbilical cord fall off, which meant he got his first real bath
-sent Dad back to work for a couple of days and stayed home with just Mom
-had his first outing to Publix
-celebrated his first Christmas.
-on Christmas eve he went with Mom, Dad, and Victoria to the park and then to pick strawberries.               He got to hang out in the baby K'tan, again.  He loved it.  Then, we went to 4Rivers for a                       Christmas Eve Lunch.  I think this should be a new tradition.
-Friday was Christmas day, and Grandma, Grandpa, Aunt Carolyn, and Uncle Ben came over in the             morning for gifts and breakfast.  That night we all went to Ben and Carolyn's house for dinner.                Nana and Papa drove down and came too.
-Saturday the whole Magyar clan (Chicerelli's, Rankins, Grandma Ella) came to join us for Faux                   Christmas and we celebrated all afternoon, again.
-still slept for about 3-4 hours at night and was still wearing newborn sized clothes.

Week 2

During Week 2 Andrew:
-enjoyed his time home with Mom and Dad
-got a visit from Aunt Carolyn and Uncle Ben
-slept for about 3.5-4 hour stretch at night, still being woken up to eat, though
-took a few walks at night to see the Christmas lights, he enjoyed the baby K'tan
-went to the tea at Winnie Palmer again, and went up to see Autumn while she was in labor at the hospital that day
-had his 2 week appointment on Friday.  he weighed 7lbs 2oz, and was 20 inches long.
-got approval from the doctor to sleep as long as he wants a night, but he still woke up every 3-4 hours.
-had a visit from Nana and Papa
-is still a great baby and doesn't cry much, except when his diaper is being changed.
-went to drive through the Christmas lights at Moss Park (proved he could sit in a car seat for 2 hours in non-moving traffic- what a disaster!)
-was held by Victoria for the first time when she asked Mommy if she could hold him!

Hospital Stay

Our hospital stay with Andrew was much less eventful than the stay with Victoria.  He was born super healthy, and other than needing a trip to the transition nursery, he got to stay in the room with us.

After my surgery was complete I went to the recovery area where Philip and Andrew were waiting for me.  Andrew and Philip had gone up to the transition nursery, but were sent back to recovery because what they needed to do with him could be done from the room.

While in recovery Andrew was making grunting noises.  Philip and I thought it was super cute.  Turns out, it was amniotic fluid in his lungs.  The nurses took him to the transition nursery to monitor him until this stopped.   We ended up having to wait in recovery for 6 hours for a postpartum room because the hospital was FULL!! So crazy to me.  I got a liquid meal, and Philip went and got breakfast at the cafeteria.  Because we would have to wait so long for a room, Philip's parents went to Disney (they were actually here on a Disney trip with the Rankins- perfect timing!) and my parents went to the house to take over on Victoria duty for the day and night.

Once we were in a room and had the baby we started getting our visitors!

Our first visitor was Victoria.  She was hesitant about her new baby brother, but started to show more interest as her visit went on.  Grandma and grandpa dressed her up in a cute pink dress to come meet Andrew for the first time.  (mind you, I bought her a big sister shirt for this occasion, but hey)

Uncle Ben and Aunt Carolyn

Nana and Papa after a day at Disney with the Rankins and Chicerelli girls.

All the Magyar Grandkids got to meet Andrew after Disney

This was truly a very exhausting day, as anyone can imagine.  After the visitors left we settled in for the night.
Day two brought Andrew getting more antibiotics incase he got an infection from my fever, a bath for him, his circumcision, and more visitors.  After going to the nursery for his medicine and procedure, he came back with this super cute hat!

The Cokers....I look awful, but it can probably be excused.

Day 3 in the hospital was less busy.  Basically keeping up with my medicine, relaxing, and getting to know Andrew.  Victoria was staying at home with Nana and Papa now, so they came by again.  Victoria got a little more curious about Andrew, but still didn't want to sit with him or hold him.

Hrmmmm

I have this cupcake so everything is ok!

when he went to the nursery overnight for a nap he came back with this Christmas hat!

Selfie, because why not?

All my loves in 1 chair.

The next day it was time to go home!  Happy and healthy we all left the hospital in the early afternoon and headed home to start our new adventure!
